You will not find another place in the world quite like Buffalo's Colored Musicians Club.

Chartered by one of the earliest-ever African-American musicians' unions (est. 1918), it has been located at 145 Broadway in the city of Buffalo, NY since July 1935. Anyone who came to town in the '30s and '40s made a stop at the Colored Musicians Club.

At a time when nearly all remnants are gone, the Colored Musicians Club still stands today as a monument and testimonial to the world class music scene that was Buffalo in the 30's, 40's and 50's. It's no less than a miracle that it exists today.

Among the jazz legends that have played the Colored Musicians Club bandstand are Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, saxophonist James Moody, drummer Art Blakey, saxophonist Sonny Stitt, saxophonist Gene Ammons (and his father, boogie woogie pianist Albert Ammons), and violinist Stuff Smith.

The Colored Musicians Club is located at 145 Broadway between Elm and Michigan Streets in Downtown Buffalo.
